I lucked out when I went down to volunteer at the Mariposa DR Foundation, an organization that works to end the cycle of generational poverty by educating and empowering young girls. There, I met Amy Martin, who was also at Mariposa, capturing the faces and worlds of the young girls Mariposa serves. Amy, a former Peace Corps volunteer, remains passionately committed to the country, bringing to light the sights, sounds, faces, and souls of a world that has obviously entered her imagination. When I saw her work, I was deeply moved by her ability to capture the essences as well as the beautiful surfaces of her subjects and of the communities she is committed to helping us see. I aspire to do with words what she does with her camera.
